ABOUT

Zamira Mtanous is a Mexican visual artist whose practice explores the memory of the absent body through fabric, revealing the traces of movement and presence that linger in time. Her work investigates the paradox of ephemeral permanence, where resilience and fragility coexist, manifesting through the transformation of materials and their connection to memory and identity.

Originally trained in architecture in Mexico, she expanded her artistic practice through a Master’s in Sculpture in Madrid, deepening her exploration of volume, materiality, and space in relation to the body and perception. Her work has been exhibited in solo shows in Mexico, including the Museo Regional de Puebla, as well as in group exhibitions in Barcelona, London, and Miami. In Madrid, she has participated in exhibitions that engage with contemporary art and textile experimentation.

Through the translucency of fabric, the depth of natural pigments, and the subtle tension of knots, her work evokes the presence of absence, capturing how memory endures through the fragility of matter. For her, the thread is a primal element that binds body and time, standing as a silent witness to transformation and the persistence of remembrance.
